Job Description

Role purpose:

Main purpose of the SAP Basis Specialist will be to ensure Radisson’s SAP environment is kept simple, scalable, resilient and vendor-agnostic, focusing on performance and availability.  A key component of this role is to review and improve changes which are to be implemented in the production environment, with a particular focus on ensuring that custom ABAP code is as optimal as possible and will either not negatively impact production performance and availability, but ideally significantly improve it.

The SAP Basis Specialist will work side by side with the SAP Operations Manager, the Sr. Director of Information Technology, and the Sr. Director for SAP and Service Management, focusing on continuous improvement of the whole SAP landscape, including non-SAP applications if applicable.

 

Roles/Responsibilities:

SAP Operations & Performance

  • Own the day-to-day technical health of SAP systems (S/4, BW, PO, etc.).
  • Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across ABAP, HANA and integrations.
  • Analyze workload and system behaviour, driving optimization actions.
  • Ensure system stability during peak loads and critical business.

Change Control & Production Protection

  • Validate the impact of ABAP developments, integrations and data volume changes.
  • Ensure all changes are technically solid, scalable and risk controlled.
  • Act as the last technical resource to ensure readiness for production.

SAP HANA & Infrastructure Optimization

  • Monitor and optimize HANA performance (CPU, memory, expensive statements, data growth).
  • Support data volume management (archiving, housekeeping, partitioning strategies).
  • Align SAP workload with infrastructure sizing across hyperscaler environments.
  • Contribute to capacity planning and cost optimization initiatives.

Cloud & Automation

  • Contribute to the evolution of the SAP landscape in hyperscaler/cloud environments.
  • Automate operational tasks (monitoring, reporting, deployments).
  • Enhance observability (SAP focused cloud tools, logging, SAP metrics integration).

Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with Engineering teams to execute the RHG 5YP strategy, ensuring SAP migrations and cloud improvements are delivered in a scalable, performant and controlled manner.
  • Support upgrades, migrations and technical initiatives (S/4 upgrades, migrations, archiving).
  • Define and challenge SAP migration frameworks with partners, ensuring scalable, repeatable and low-risk execution.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners.
  • Drive simplification and standardization of the SAP landscape.

Vendor & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Collaborate across internal teams and external partners, ensuring alignment on technical decisions and priorities.
  • Interact with Director, Sr. Director and VP levels, providing clear, structured and fact-based input on system performance, risks and technical decisions, translating complex topics into business-relevant insights.

SAP Basis Specialist accountability will be smooth operation, continuous innovation and transformation of Radisson’s SAP Cloud environments.

Language Skills

  • Professional English proficiency (spoken and written) is required.

Must-Have Experience

  • 8–12+ years of proven SAP Basis experience in complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA and SAP HANA database administration.
  • Deep knowledge of SAP Basis / NetWeaver architecture and administration.
  • Strong experience in SAP performance analysis, troubleshooting and optimization across application, database and infrastructure layers.
  • Knowledge of SAP security concepts, authorizations and technical troubleshooting
  • Experience with SAP upgrades, migrations and technical transformation projects
  • Good understanding of ABAP runtime behavior and performance impact analysis
  • Experience operating SAP environments on cloud platforms / hyperscalers (AWS preferred)
  • Experience working in international environments and collaborating with external providers and managed services
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a pragmatic and execution-oriented mindset

Highly Desirable Experience

  • SAP Fiori administration, troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Experience with SAP PO and SAP integration scenarios.
  • Experience with SAP BTP / CPI environments.
  • Experience with SAP ASE databases.
  • Experience with scripting and automation (Bash, Python, PowerShell or similar).
  • Exposure to observability, monitoring and automation frameworks.
  • Experience with SAP data volume management, archiving and housekeeping strategies.
  • Broad understanding of SAP platform architecture and cloud-native operational models.
  • Hospitality industry experience.

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 20% travel, primarily Brussels.

  • Passion for customer service, efficiency, effectiveness and quality.
  • Good team player, willingness to assist others and share expertise.
  • Highly influential, leadership, communication at least at director level, efficiency, sociability.

Minimum education:

  • University Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Relevant cloud or SAP certifications are considered a plus.
