Job Description

We are currently seeking a Duty Engineer to join our vibrant team. As a Duty Engineer, you play a vital role in ensuring our properties deliver an experience beyond expectation, creating memorable moments for our guests.

  • Supports the smooth running of the property maintenance department, where all areas are maintained to the highest levels
  • Works proactively to improve guest satisfaction and comfort, delivering a positive and timely response to guest enquiries
  • Delivers on plans and objectives where property maintenance initiatives & hotel targets are achieved - Manages the maintenance team fostering a culture of growth, development and performance within the department
  • Responsible for the departmental budget, ensuring that costs and inventory are controlled, that productivity and performance levels are attained
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with all key stakeholders
  • Delivers an effective planned preventative maintenance programme addressing maintenance, environmental and conservation matters

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

GENERAL

  • Assist the Chief Engineer in making preventative maintenance schedules for all equipment in the mechanical & electrical equipment, laundry, kitchen and swimming pool.
  • Complete preventative maintenance schedules for equipment in the major plant including chillers, cooling towers, air conditioning units and fans, pumps, automatic control systems, etc. and update in CMMS.
  • Ensures that all equipment is operated effectively by directing and supervising the operation of all running equipment.
  • Utilises leadership skills and motivation techniques in order to maximise employee productivity and satisfaction of direct reports.
  • Arranges to keep adequate level of supplies and spare parts in store relevant to maintenance requirements within jurisdiction and informs the Engineering Coordinator & Chief Engineer of equipment and supply requirement.
  • Maintains routine reports by recording daily meter readings and interpreting daily log sheets.
  • Keeps Chief Engineer closely informed of anything that could indicate malfunctions.
  • Ensures that all applicable requirements are being complied with by maintaining contact with local authorities such as fire brigade, electricity suppliers and the Health Department.’
  • Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the operation of the department and/or hotel whenever possible by making suggestions to the Chief Engineer.
  • Ensures that all employees follow safety rules and emergency procedures.
  • Manage the day-to-day rectification of all Maintenance Work Order (MWO) coming from other department.
  • In the absence of his superior, he will attend the daily HOD meeting and report to him what was transpired from the said meeting.
  • Investigates and recommends sources when local purchasing of contract services, equipment, parts and supplies for the Department is required; also monitors and controls Contractor activities.
  • Determines, communicates and monitors achievement of standards of performance on a timely basis.
  • Employs respectful discipline as required.
  • Actively participates departmental activities and property events.
  • Attends relevant training to remain current on proper techniques.
  • Maintains a safe and secure environment for customers and employees.
  • Takes corrective action where required to improve safety of work area.
  • Performs any other duties as requested by the Chief Engineer.

 

 

GUEST ROOMS

  • Lead the guest rooms maintenance program and communicate with required department pertaining to schedules and included works, noisy works etc.
  • Inspect and accepts maintenance works prior to the Chief Engineer’s final inspection to be handed over for Housekeeping. Room after maintenance works are expected to be spotless and in new condition.
  • Lead rooms operations such as guest call and outright maintenance requests. Closely coordinate with front Office Manager/ Duty Manager and Housekeeping Supervisor/ Executive Housekeeper pertaining to repair works, Out of Service or Out of Order rooms, updates etc.
  • Assist Electromechanical Technician in room servicing such as technical support, communicating with guest and relaying of additional request to required department.
  • Conduct walkaround in guest rooms for obvious floor and room defects for maintenance.
  • Create monthly reports pertaining to top 5 guest complaints and top 5 issues raised by housekeeping and create resolutions on issues.

 

 

PLANT & UTILITIES, LAUNDRY and KITCHEN

  • Conducts regular routine inspection on critical/ major equipment serving the hotel.
  • Provide technical support and physical assistance to Electro-mechanical technician as needed.
  • Detects when plant or equipment needs repair, or when it is not economically justifiable to repair, by closely monitoring repair history of all major equipment.
  • Close coordination with Mall Engineering pertaining to Electrical, Potable Water and Chilled water supplies for any irregularities or scheduled maintenance and testing.
  • Create monthly utility report and interpret the factors contributing the rise and fall of a specific utility unit.
  • Create monthly equipment preventive maintenance update, challenges, accomplishments and resolution on issues.

 

PUBLIC AREA

  • Conducts regular routine inspection on hotel facilities and ensure that all equipment is operational such as background music, lightings and AC.
  • Ensure that scheduled maintenance works are implemented with timely request for materials and manpower requirement.
  • Ensure that all areas for Back and Front of House are in pristine condition such as paint jobs, furniture repair, ceiling are free from leak marks etc.
  • Create monthly equipment preventive maintenance update, challenges, accomplishments and resolution on issues.

 

Adheres to hotel policies and procedures

  • Attends work on time and as scheduled
  • Follows hotel grooming, hygiene and dress standards
  • Minimize safety hazards by following all safety rules and procedure.
  • Refrain from personal conversations with other employee at the main entrance.
  • Keeps immediate manager promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with established company policies and procedures to achieve the overall objectives of this position
  • Maintains a favorable working relationship with all other company employees to foster and promote co-operative and harmonious working climate
  • At all time projects a favorable image of the Brand to the public

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in property maintenance with excellent problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent managerial skills with a hands-on approach and lead- by-example work style
  • Commitment to exceptional guest service with a passion for the hospitality industry
  • Ability to find creative solutions, offering advice and recommendations
  • Minimum of one - three years work experience in the hotel industry in Engineering
  • Minimum one-year supervisory experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Able to resolve conflicts guests, supervisor and employee
  • Able to collaborate effectively with other hotel employees and managers to ensure teamwork
  • Advance knowledge of building management and engineering
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration and life safety operating systems
